I ran out of excuses yesterday.
I usually tell my dear husband that he has to do the oil changes in my car because it’s too hard with the kids. Well, I was out running errands yesterday – by myself! - and thought I’d “bless my husband” by getting this tedious little task done. So, I pulled in to the Shell Rapid Lube on Chinden – just down the hill from Hewlett Packard.
Besides the fact that I didn’t even have to get out of the car (so, I guess I can do this with the kids en-tow…no excuses anymore) I’d be re-missed not to tell you the service was pretty amazing. Here’s the low-down.
I pulled in, and was immediately greeted by a gentleman (and I do mean that in the true senseof the word) handing me a free USA Today and a price sheet. He told me it would be about 15 min. So, I sat and waited…and read my paper. Had I arrived an hour earlier, I could have snuck inside (or, better yet, gone through the drive-through) to grab a latte from the Moxie Java that’s attached to the station (Moxie closes at 1pm).
As I sat there, I was somewhat amused by the uniforms these guys were wearing. Black pants, white shirts, black bow-ties and smart coats. Hardlythe attire you’d expect at a place that changes your motor oil. At the same time, I was also impressed. The classy “uniforms” set a tone for the kind of service you should expect that seemed to harken back to yesteryear. None of that business of jeans hanging so low you can see five inches of some kid’s underpants (or worse!), ratty t-shirts, etc. No, these guys were expected to dress to take the job seriously, and they did. They were all extremely friendly and had a smile on their face. There was also a TV monitor just outside the car where I could watch what was going on in the pit under the car. Talk about accountability!
And, here was the best part, no high-pressure to buy stuff you don’t need!
A basic oil change with their 20 point inspection was $32.99. I opted for the “Supreme” which I think was $47.15 with tax – this included a couple cleaners.
So, not only do I now have no excuse NOT to get an oil change (since we can sit in the car the whole time and watch everything that’s going on)…I actually enjoyed the time to relax and look forward to my next oil change in May!
Next time, I’ll just go a little earlier so I can grab that Latte!
Cheers!

Best place in town for an oil change, bar none. That’s all that needs to be said, but I thought your review was a charming read.
