New Irish Dance Troupe Makes Debut Performance March 1st
Performance will “leap and kick” off the St. Patrick’s Day season
BOISE- St. Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be the same in the Treasure Valley without plenty of green getup, leprechauns and the Tiernan Irish Dancers. The dancers are ready to kick off the season of shamrocks with their newest show, “Celtic Rhythm,” on March 1stat the Nampa Civic Center at 7:00p.m.
“If you’ve never seen the Tiernan Irish Dancers perform, this is the show to see,” said Bekah Wheeler, Tiernan’s local certified teacher. “Our brand new advanced performance team ‘Deanta’ will inspire and delight the audience with dynamic traditional Irish step-dancing.”
The Tiernan Irish Dancers will perform along with Deanta at the group’s first public show entitled “Celtic Rhythm.” There will also be live Irish music selections played by “The Giant Leprechauns,” a local Irish band. Tickets are available through www.ictickets.comor the Nampa Civic Center Box Office (208) 468-5555.
Tiernan implemented the Deanta Team this past fall to provide an outlet for the more advanced dancers to showcase their talents. Deanta consists of 25 boys and girls ages 9-18 who have excelled in their dance training.
All Tiernan students study under the same training techniques which have lead to the tremendous success enjoyed by its sister school – the Chicago-based Trinity Academy of Irish Dance which is considered to be the most widely recognized Irish Dance program in the world!
Since fall, the Deanta team has worked hard to learn and perfect the intricate choreography practiced by the world-renowned Trinity Irish Dancers. Trinity, a uniquely Irish-American dance company, was the birthplace of progressive Irish dance. Mark Howard who founded both Trinity and Tiernan is credited with opening new avenues of artistic dance expression leading directly to commercial productions such as “Riverdance.”
Under Howard’s guidance, Tiernan is quickly being regionally recognized for its dynamic performances, community involvement, as well as national and world level achievement. In fact, in 2007, Tiernan sent the first Idaho native to the World Championships in Scotland to compete.
The March 1stperformance of “Celtic Rhythm” kicks off two weeks of Irish activities culminating with a number of St. Patrick’s Day appearances by the Tiernan Irish Dancers including Nampa City Hall where Mayor Tom Dale will proclaim Monday, March 17th, as “Tiernan Irish Dancers’ Day” in Nampa.
