The Vengeance of “Falling Rock”
As a kid during car-trip family vacations, my dad used to tell us a fantastic story about a young Indian brave named “Falling Rock” who disappeared while on an expedition (I wish I could remember the story…I’ll have to ask him…siblings, chime in here if you remember how the story went…). If memory serves correct, there was some sort of a love story involved in his disappearance. Dad had all of us kids convinced that the yellow caution signs on the side of the road that read “Watch for Falling Rock” were reminders to all drivers to look for this poor young Indian brave. And watch for him I did. I now know better - it was all a ploy to keep us occupied and make us stop asking “Are we there yet???”
Or was it?
I was a little taken aback moments ago when I visited the Idaho Statesman’s website for my news fix of the day… Evidently, Falling Rock has been found…and he’s back with a vengeance. Here’s the photo…
Statesman Cutline: A boulder the size of an RV blocks the East Fork Road from McCall to Yellow Pine. The rockslide took place about 4 miles west of Yellow Pine.
I’m glad I don’t live in Yellow Sign…er, I mean Yellow Pine! It will be a while before they dig out of this one…
