BURNED!!! (again)

The beginning of spring is not always such a “good life” day in the life of the Goodlife Gal’s house.  Its about the point that the grass starts really greening up that we start to see just how bad the problem is…and this year was no exception!

We have a wonderful dog - love her dearly, BUT!  (There is always a “but,” isn’t there?)  I could really do without the horrendous burn spots she leaves on our lawn each winter!  A friend suggested giving her a little tea in her water during the winter months, but honestly, I just could not find the time to make my dog tea each day (and besides, I wonder what a caffeinated dog looks like…I doubt it would be a pretty sight with our pooch!)

Anyway, I would really love to be done forever with this whole chore of redoing the lawn on a yearly basis…so today, I decided I’d had enough!

I drove myself down to Zamzow’s and asked “Short of giving my dog away, WHAT THE HECK DO YOU DO FOR THIS!?!?!?”  I figured of all people, Zamzow’s would have to know!  And they did - or at least they had an answer.  We’re giving it a go, and I’ll let you know if it works!

Here’s the recommendation:

1)  Get some Thrive (formerly “Save a tree”) (mix 1 cup Thrive to 1 gallon of water)

2) If your grass isn’t too far gone, pour the Thrive/Water mixture on the burn spots.  If any of it will come back, this should do it - according to the good folks at Zamzows!

3) If you grass is definitely a “goner” (like ours):

          a) rake up all the dead grass (ours came up easily)

          b) spread a little compost to help give the seed something to take to

          c) spread the grass seed

          d) water (i watered in some Thrive/Water mixture as well)

4) Give your dog “Enzame” Vitamin/Mineral supplement in his/her food DAILY.  This all natural formula is supposed to neutralize their urine so you don’t get more burn spots and takes about 20 days to fully get into their system.  The catch is that you have to give it to your dog on a CONSISTENT basis all year.

FYI, if you’re interested, here’s the link for Zamzows: http://www.zamzows.com/

So, we’ll see if it works.  I’ll update you!  If you know of any other fabulous all natural tricks (that are cheap and don’t take much time!) post ‘em here!

In the meantime, you should know that after all that time in the yard trying to fix the burn spots in the grass… I actually got burned on my nose!  It was a good reminder that it’s time to start using the sunscreen!

 Cheers!

  • Definitely keep us posted. If this actually works, I want to do it also. We’ll let you be the guinea pig. :)
