A Summertime Rant…

What was your summer like as a child?  Hmmm…  I remember lots of lazy days, most moms were home, playing in the mud, jumping on the trampoline, swimming, riding our bikes to the Ustick Merc to buy candy and play Centipede (back when it was still the Ustick Merc!) and getting into trouble…but not so [...]

JR Simplot…1909-2008

As a child I remember going to visit my Oma who lived just off of Bogus Basin Road at the base of the “highlands” in the Boise foothills.  I remember gawking at the big house with arched windows perched high on the hill with the BIG American flag waiving unfurled in the wind.

Oh, the places you’ll go…

Craig’s List is a beautiful thing.  We sold our old 1995 Ford Taurus today.  The buyer’s call came in less than 24 hours of the original post…and the money came 24 hours later.  In less than 48 hours, this car that had carried us so far was out of our lives. For good.
I never thought [...]

The Vengeance of “Falling Rock”

As a kid during car-trip family vacations, my dad used to tell us a fantastic story about a young Indian brave named “Falling Rock” who disappeared while on an expedition (I wish I could remember the story…I’ll have to ask him…siblings, chime in here if you remember how the story went…).  If memory serves correct, [...]

What on earth is there to do in Boise??

One of the great things about WordPress blogs is that the program, among other things, let’s to you see various search terms people input that ultimately lead them to your blog.  I like to look at these occasionally (okay, so maybe a little more than “occasionally”….maybe occasionally throughout the day) because to me this entire process [...]

Celebrating Easter as a family

I always like to find new and fun ways to teach my kids about our family’s faith - especially on important holidays such as Christmas and Easter.  It just seems to me that with all the commercialism it’s far to easy for kids to think Easter is just about candy, bunnies and springtime.  One thing I [...]

The tale of a mail box…and a package…

Here’s my up front disclaimer - the vast majority of you who come here seeking things to do an stuff that’s unique to Boise will not care at all about this post which is the very reason you should read it!!!
This is a story of a mail box, and one very suspicious package.
When we moved to Hidden [...]

Olympic Dreams

Okay, with that Back to the Future reference in the last blog, and thinking about warmer days, I just had to post this one.  As a kid many will vouch for my passion for roller skating.  One of my best friends and I would literally spend HOURS (I’m not kidding…we could do this from sun-up [...]

Dreaming under the stars…

As a kid it was the kind of opportunity I couldn’t wait for.  AUDITIONS!  Not that I was any good at acting.  I think I typically over did it…a lot.  But that didn’t stop me from delivering my ONE line as an extra in the Boise Music Week production of Finnian’s Rainbow at the Morrison [...]

Merry Christmas!

I’ve been taking a few days to relax with family (and get over that cold!) but just wanted to pop on this morning to wish the world a Merry Christmas and share a favorite Christmas memory.
Memories warm the heart, and I have to say one of my favorite memories was when my Uncle Art and Aunt Alice [...]
